The inaugural Best of Ballston Awards presented by Clark Construction Group, LLC celebrated local pioneers at the Ballston Business Improvement District’s 6th Annual Meeting on Wednesday, June 21st. Over 200 Arlington business and community leaders gathered in the Westin Arlington Gateway to honor the creative minds behind Ballston’s evolution and thought leadership.
Zach Leonsis, Vice President and General Manager of Monumental Sports Network, presented the Innovation Award to Cybraics, an artificial intelligence and cyber security analytics company. Leonsis praised Ballston’s creative culture and entrepreneurial spirit as key aspects of its exponential growth.
John Shooshan, CEO and President of the Shooshan Company received the inaugural Robert Ball Sr. Award for his invaluable contributions to the Ballston & Arlington community through innovative real estate projects and inspiring a culture of creative collaboration. Shooshan is responsible for several large-scale development projects in the Ballston district with the delivery of Liberty Center North, Liberty Center South and the redevelopment of Marymount University's Ballston campus. These buildings have become home to some to Arlington's most innovative tenants including The Office of Naval Research, DARPA, and Air Force Office of Scientific Research, all of which help cultivate the research and discovery environment Ballston is now known for.

Property Manager Award: Cheryl Dennis, Piedmont Office Realty Trust
Cheryl Dennis is an outstanding property manager and long term supporter of the BID who has worked tirelessly with us to connect tenants to the BID's services, products and programs. She manages two large buildings in Ballston and works hard to ensure all her tenants are thriving. With the help of Cheryl's efforts we have been able to grow our farmers market from 5,000 visits per season to over 25,000 visits per season and turn it into one of the most successful markets in the regions. Cheryl has helped us host Sip 'n' Mingle events in her buildings, helped us with the installation of wifi access points for B.Linked at Piedmont properties in Ballston, and she is a regular participant at our property managers group meetings. This team has been a major player for a long time not just in Ballston, but all along the RB corridor, and their work with developers from Piedmont, The JBG Companies, and the Shooshan Company has helped turned Ballston in the neighborhood it is today. The JLL team has brought several great companies to area, most notably the mega deal that brought Amazon Web Services to Ballston. Additionally they've pioneered leasing for major Ballston buildings Arlington Gateway and The Regent, as well as new developments such as 4040 Wilson.
