Ballston: Home of the Caps

Come See the Washington Capitals at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex

You probably know that Ballston offers a ton of options for fun, fitness and entertainment, including a cinema plex, 9+ gyms, 10 parks, and 60 restaurants all within a 5-block radius!  Our most unique amenity however, is that we are the home to Washington Capitals professional hockey team!

The Caps Season at a Glance
When they aren’t playing on the road or at the Verizon Center, the Capitals are perfecting their game at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex. With only 11 home games left in the regular season, the Washington Capitals are in great shape for the playoffs. Sitting at 1st overall in both the Eastern conference and the entire NHL league, the Caps are (39-11) two points up in their conference and one point up in the league.  Of the current roster, Alexander Ovechkin is undoubtedly the fan favorite, but current point leader, Nicklas Backstrom, is giving him a run for his money. And with awareness like this who can blame us?

Kettler Captials Iceplex: One of a Kind
Kettler Capitals Iceplex is a 137,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility featuring two full-sized NHL regulation rinks. This iceplex is a feat of modern engineering and is the highest ice rink above street level in the U.S. as it was built on top of an 8 story parking garage!  The iceplex is a huge benefit to the community, offering a wide variety of skating options from youth hockey leagues to senior skating, free skates, party rooms, and best of all, Capitals practices are free to attend and open to the public. The iceplex will be open during all of the Ballston Quarter redevelopment.

Though the hockey season is thoroughly underway, there is still plenty of the season left to enjoy! To see when the Washington Capitals are holding their practice, check out

And don’t forget, the Kettler is home to many more teams, not just the Capitals, including children & adult leagues, camps, and public skates. To see what else the Kettler has in store, check out
